Hi my name is Leroy , I am 15 years old, I live in Wugularr. I really like this place because it’s beautiful. I have lived here all my life. I like going swimming fishing at the waterfall and swimming . This place is special to me and my family because it has lots of beautiful places like billabongs and rivers.
I enjoyed taking these photos because it makes me feel happy and is a lot of fun . I want people to see where I come from , the land, animals, things that are happening here.

My name is Ammaretta Daniels I am sixteen years old . I lived all my life here Wugularr but at the moment I’m living in Ngukurr with my grandparents . I like this place because I have lots of family and I got lotta friends and I grew up here.
When I finish school I want to be a doctor to help my family if any of them are sick.
I’m taking these pictures so people can look at them from all over the world and they can get to know what out culture is like , like Tango making didjeridoo and aboriginal painting, the way we speak which is Creole. Creole is like broken English , like when half of the English is broken to Creole, that’s why they call it broken English. Show them our country , our land , our connection to our country, how we live in it.

My name is Jessica George ad I am 18 years old . I live at Wugularr, it’s a great community, near Katherine. It has a beautiful waterfall called Beswick Falls , we have a festival there called Walking with Spirits. We got traditional stories belong to that place, stories about mermaids. Those mermaids still live there in that waterhole. I like going fishing there and camping out, having a big time with my family. We made a film about those mermaids with Tom E Lewis.
We got another place called Black Rock we like jumping off the rocks into the water, there’s fresh water crocodiles there. Sometimes we collect gums from the trees and we eat it , sometimes we eat sugar bag, sometimes we make damper and billy tea.
In the wet season we get lottsa rain and the Waterhouse River comes up and all the kids go swimming , jumping off the bridge into the river . Sometimes that water comes up so high we can’t get to Katherine to go shopping . On Friday night we sometimes have a disco at the basketball court and I go and watch them dancing .
We have an art gallery here too with lottsa art. Some of the old people in my community make didjeridoos and paintings. My grandmother Aneglina George is a great painter , she makes paintings about the land and flowers and sells them at the Karen Brown Gallery in Darwin.
I got a sister and two brothers , Jenny and me , Joseph and Jacob, they’re small . I look after them . My aunty Lorretta George is an Aboriginal health worker, she works in Wugularr clinic. I got good friends here and I enjoy talking and hanging out with them.
